JUNE 2010 Recent Meeting at ClubHi all, okay to put you all in the picture of how the club is doing right now. We have 3 trustees to sign the lease with the council. Myself, Peter Mccartney and Darren Coan. I am just awaiting the council to finish the lease which I am promised will be this week (5th July 2010) however don't hold your breath there is always a hold up somewhere in the pipeline and this has after all been going on since last summer! I am on the look out for people at the club to take up the following positions Fixtures Secretary Social Secretary and of course a new Chairman come October as I will need to move on New tags will be in the club house this week and keep a look out for renewal letters for those that have yet to renew Andy The Club as it Stands Part II
Summer 2010 Finally, we have total permission to take over the courts! I am on the look out for another two trustees who will commit there name to the signing of the lease for the club! Let me know asap about this then we can go ahead and sort out membership more throroughly. I will be placing locks on the gates as soon as the letter is in my hand and I have completed a mail out to everyone regarding membership for those that havent joined and tags and a welcome letter for those that have. ON ANOTHER NOTE Some of you have already realised that I have stopped coaching on the Saturday, due to personal reasons I have had to change my job and this meant pursuing another more well paid job as head coach at Brentwood Hard Tennis Club. This may or may not have implications for some of you but as it stands I will remain chairman within the club and continue meetings and brokering deals that go on behind the scenes that nobody seems to be aware of! On that note I will be inserting a letter stating the jobs that I need covered within the club from match secretary to ball orderer. Just the basic few to keep things ticking where I now have lost the time to do this. Head Coach Will Roberts has now been become the Head Coach at the club and has the task of building the programmes up with which will now be easier with the access of the 3 courts to us. Internal Matches Nobody seems to be playing matches on the ladder league or box league, so I am going to reinstate these for you all as the first system that worked well and I took this away to implement a system that was self running. Didnt quite work but all the same we will revert to the poster form for the time being. Any questions, queries or gripes please contact me on my email See you all soon Andy
This year will see the start of a new junior membership which will mean we shall open the courts for these once a week from 4-6 to practice and play, the emphasis will be on that these players must be able to play a shortened set version! More details will be available for this in the next few weeks. Now is the time to renew your membership for the year. I am sure the forms will be in the post to you soon. Please ensure once you have renewed that you place your trainer tag on so we know who our club members are. Things are changing around the club meaning the Park Keepers will no longer be available to open or close the complex at weekends and will finish at 3pm during the week. There does seem to be some problem with the public using the courts when members wish to close up. The best answer for now is let these people play but as they enter do let them know when you will be leaving and that you are required to close the courts. Due to the above scenario however we are now getting more new members into the club. I am sure you will all welcome them however we will need to review the key situation. Obviously we will have to be careful who gets access to the courts and maybe need to implement a yearly changing code to the main gate. This also means we are on the hunt for a new coach that can help build the programme mid-week and run more events for you all. My current role sees me playing 6 days a week as it is which may be why most of you have still yet to see me! You will see that the website has been revamped a little and we have a great season ahead, with the following ideas planned:
Please note the new Singles Round Robin tournament is now up and running. This round of matches will finish at the end of June.
We will be trialling a one of the worlds most fun tournaments in our club over the next few months. This is available for teams of 4 players. The criteria is that players must not be rated higher than a 9.1 and must not be playing regularly for the club. Each team of four will play one doubles and two singles matches. Matches consist of best of 4 games, no ad scoring and a time break at 3-3. Winners from the club will go on to play other clubs, who will then continue to play for the county and eventually for England. If you are interested then please contact Andy for more details or watch out on the notice boards. Get ready to enter your team of 4. This tournament will be only played once a year and incurs a £6.00 entrance fee including free Fun Cup T-shirt.
For the more accomplished player we shall also be trialling a brand new matchplay concept. TENNIS 90. This will be available in the Essex, Kent and East London Regions. Each team will consist of 3-players and each player will compete in one singles and two doubles matches each over the course of 90 Minutes. Each match will last for 25 minutes or first to win one set. This will be a postal tournament for Adults and Juniors. For more information contact Andy.
