December 2009 The
Club as it Stands
The council are just setting out the lease for us to sign and gain access to the first 3 courts. This means we will be solely incharge of these and will need to keep everything spick and span. This will also mean running many projects for the community but this wont affect the club. Dont forget the Sunday 20th December is the Christmas handicapped fun tournament starts at 10 and finishes around 1. See you all there Andy This year will see the start of a new junior membership which will mean we shall open the courts for these once a week from 4-6 to practice and play, the emphasis will be on that these players must be able to play a shortened set version! More details will be available for this in the next few weeks. Now is the time to renew your membership for the year. I am sure the forms will be in the post to you soon. Please ensure once you have renewed that you place your trainer tag on so we know who our club members are. Things are changing around the club meaning the Park Keepers will no longer be available to open or close the complex at weekends and will finish at 3pm during the week. There does seem to be some problem with the public using the courts when members wish to close up. The best answer for now is let these people play but as they enter do let them know when you will be leaving and that you are required to close the courts. Due to the above scenario however we are now getting more new members into the club. I am sure you will all welcome them however we will need to review the key situation. Obviously we will have to be careful who gets access to the courts and maybe need to implement a yearly changing code to the main gate. This also means we are on the hunt for a new coach that can help build the programme mid-week and run more events for you all. My current role sees me playing 6 days a week as it is which may be why most of you have still yet to see me! You will see that the website has been revamped a little and we have a great season ahead, with the following ideas planned:
Please note the new Singles Round Robin tournament is now up and running. This round of matches will finish at the end of June.
We will be trialling a one of the worlds most fun tournaments in our club over the next few months. This is available for teams of 4 players. The criteria is that players must not be rated higher than a 9.1 and must not be playing regularly for the club. Each team of four will play one doubles and two singles matches. Matches consist of best of 4 games, no ad scoring and a time break at 3-3. Winners from the club will go on to play other clubs, who will then continue to play for the county and eventually for England. If you are interested then please contact Andy for more details or watch out on the notice boards. Get ready to enter your team of 4. This tournament will be only played once a year and incurs a £6.00 entrance fee including free Fun Cup T-shirt.
For the more accomplished player we shall also be trialling a brand new matchplay concept. TENNIS 90. This will be available in the Essex, Kent and East London Regions. Each team will consist of 3-players and each player will compete in one singles and two doubles matches each over the course of 90 Minutes. Each match will last for 25 minutes or first to win one set. This will be a postal tournament for Adults and Juniors. For more information contact Andy.
